Southwest Sound Solutions got its start as a commercial AV integrator. Since the beginning we have specialized in design, installation and service. Recent additions include full service integration in other areas such as structured cable and low voltage lighting. Further, we have expanded into new marketing including houses of worship and healthcare. Our goal is to offer the most innovative, cost effective, and technically appropriate solution to our customers.

All work is executed in compliance with the National Electric Code, the National Electric Safety Code, American Society of Mechanical Engineers Rigging Hardware, the Occupational Safety and Health Act, all applicable state and local codes, ordinances, and regulations. All completed systems undergo final quality checks with proper instrumentation.

Company History

Shortly after WWII, Leo Lindsey and his wife Helen started one of the first, High Fidelity shops in the San Antonio area. It was called L & L Sales.

In 1947, Southwest Radio and Sound Equipment Company was formed to provide installation services and new technology such as home, school, and business intercom systems. Larger public address venues were built in the boom years after the war when RCA and Western Electric were the premier manufacturers of choice. The two largest gathering places in San Antonio, The Municipal Auditorium and the Freeman Coliseum were our flagship installations of the day.

By the early 1960s, Dr. CP Boner in Austin had developed the concept of equalization using hand wound toroidal copper coils and precision capacitors. Later, White Instruments in Austin manufactured these devices pioneered by Dr. Boner. Southwest Radio and Sound Equipment Company was on the leading edge of this technology, providing the technicians and installers for his audio expertise. Altec-Lansing was the equipment of choice in those days for speakers, horns, drivers, electronics, amplifiers and later some of the first commercially available equalizers.

In 1966, Stephen H. Simpson, Jr. purchased Southwest Radio and Sound Equipment Company from the Lindseys. Simpson had gotten his degree in electrical engineering from Texas A&M, was a professional engineer, had spent 25 years working for RCA in New York and Washington. He moved back to Texas in 1953 and was working at Southwest Research Institute when he purchased the company.

In 1967, the name was changed to Southwest Sound and Electronics, Inc. and we moved to our current location on NW Loop 410, San Antonio in 1968.

The next generation came along in 1972 when Stephen H. Simpson III returned from his military commitment and joined the company as Vice President. He was elected president in 1982 and Simpson, Jr. moved to Chairman of the Board.

In May of 2016, Bobsin Boyd Design, LLC. purchased Southwest Sound and Electronics, Inc. It was more than a mere purchase of the company and assets. It was a joining of new blood, new expertise and new leadership. Mr. Simpson remains on board as a consultant and advisor to the company.

The new leadership team also opened up new product and service offerings, along with new markets of application. These include data, IT, and structured cabling, for all markets.
Additionally, the company has taken these proven products and services into new markets which include healthcare and houses of worship. Along with these, came the new operating name of Southwest Sound Solutions, and our new logo.
